Three more new IRONMAN triathletes
Another weekend, another three coached athletes waiting at the water's edge in with 140.6 miles ahead of them, ready to become an IRONMAN for the first time.
This time it was the turn of uber-competitive newlyweds Matt and Claz 🤵👰, along with Tri Squad athlete Timur, racing out at IRONMAN Portugal
In the two months prior to Portugal, Matt & Claz had their hen & stag do's, got married, squeezed in a training Trip, ran the Big London Half, and two weeks prior, Matt ran a 2:55 at London, a race he wanted to prioritise. But come race day, the gloves were off! 🥊
After an awesome 1:10 swim (1:11 for Matt), Claz would take a small lead into the bike, and the advantage of having invested in a used TT and bike fit 🚴♀️💨, whereas Matt would smash it out on a gravel bike with clip-on Tri Bars 💪! They'd bike near identical times with Matt taking a minute back. GAME ON! 💥
Despite a niggle restricting her run training, Claz ran a super 4:19 to finish her first IM in a brilliant 12:11:28 and 12th AG. 👏👏👏
Matt would run a solid 3:48 to finish his debut IM in a fantastic 11:39, smashing his Sub-12 target.🔥 He'd only finish 79th AG... so we think bragging rights have to be shared!!😉
Tims's ultimate goal was to finish! And he did just that in a fantastic 14:28:05 to finish a top weekend. Real kudos to Tim who pursued this ambition while fitting in training around an all-consuming NHS work rota. 🙌🙌🙌
